It is interesting to compare them side by side.
From top to bottom we have:
4 Medium (Worsted, Aran, Afghan)
3 Light (DK, Light worsted)
2 Fine (Sport, Baby)
1 Super fine (fingering, sock, baby)
0 Lace (fingering)
Super fine, fingering weight yarn is my personal favorite, but one must not become rigidly attached to a specific yarn weight. The project should dictate what yarn weight you use.
Here's the Jacinta flower using each weight.

Worsted vs. Doubleknit vs. Sport vs. Fingering vs. Lace - WOW! What a difference weight makes. I love all things little so the lace weight one has a special place in my heart, but in reality they are all unique and wonderful their own way.
The pink worsted weight flower is 4 1/2 inches long. Could be a cool scrubby?
The DK weight, light blue flower is about 4 inches Definitely coaster size.
The purple sports weight is 3 1/2 inches. This would be a great size for a bed spread I think.
Here is a fingering weight green flower is 2 1/2. Great size for a table runner or pillow if stitched together.
The lace weight is about 1 1/2 inches and would make something beautifully delicate. Stitched together to make a shawl perhaps?
So there you have it.
